Whenever I go to a city that has a Chinatown, I have to visit. I was spoiled when I lived in Boston, which has a great Chinatown that I visited frequently, and it's something I really miss in Delhi. I love browsing the various shops, bakeries, and grocery stores, and trying out different restaurants - I've wanted to go to East/Southeast Asia for ages, so I guess Chinatown is the next best thing. I'd been to the Chicago Chinatown years ago, and was excited to go back with Azara today!
Top of the agenda: food! We went to a restaurant called Joy Yee, enticed by the display of very lifelike plastic models of some of their dishes.
I had a super-yummy Vietnamese vermicelli noodle bowl, topped with fresh veggies, chicken and an egg roll. To drink I had a milk tea with chunks of mango pudding, a change from the traditional bubble tea.
Azara had a coconut milk tea with grass jelly and tapioca.
Afterwards we went browsing at different stores - an amazing candy store, a grocery store and an Asian cosmetics store, where I found a ton of Skin Food, Skin79, My Beauty Diary and Hada Lobo products - all overpriced though and nothing I desperately needed, but it was fun to browse! Didn't take pictures inside though because I felt too conspicuous. Above is a shot of the Asian grocery store.
And more!
And here's Azara waiting for the train back home. Most of the Chicago metro system is above ground, and it's COLD right now, so they have these heated spaces on the platform where you can stand and be warmed up - that's what she's standing under in this picture!

Oh how lucky of you to visit china towns! Wish Delhi had a china town. I know kolkata has a china town though sadly I never go a chance to visit that side of kolkata. The food looks tasty and what your friend is drinking looks like a bubble tea. Great thing that bubble tea now is available in Delhi now. I love your friend's hair. Very pretty ^_^.
ReplyDeleteI really wish Delhi had one too! I've never been to the Kolkata one - will have to check it out when I go! And I'll tell Azara you said so! :D
DeleteThe good looks delicious! I've never been to an American Chinatown but visited areas like that in Bangkok & KL. Makes me wish there were more in India other than Kolkata.
ReplyDeleteMe too, they're always so much fun. I really need to get to SE Asia, it's been top of my list for places to travel for the longest time now!
